Pros

The families and patient population. The other staff occupational therapists are helpful, kind, and willing to work as a team.

Cons

The policies at Timber Ridge are designed to micromanage and control employees. There is minimal flexibility, and the hours are long. The high productivity rate often leads to therapist burnout and poor work-life balance. The bonuses are difficult to achieve, and last-minute cancellations do not count toward your productivity/you do not get compensated for cancellations. When you do bring up concerns regarding your physical health and your schedule, it is often disregarded without legitimate change. Be cautious of what you sign when you first start. Many of my previous colleagues were pressured into signing a non-compete contract, which requires giving two months' notice before resigning; otherwise, you owe a fee per day if you leave before the two-month mark. However, you can be let go with just a one-week warning and no severance pay. The benefits are minimal. There is no sick time included in PTO, and you don't begin accruing PTO until the four-month mark. The turnover rate is extremely high, and there is limited room for growth in terms of raises or leadership positions with a pay increase. Prior to departing Timber Ridge, it was difficult to maintain a positive and professional relationship with the clinic manager as I was confronted with pettiness. Towards the end of my time at Timber Ridge, hours I worked were omitted from my paychecks. Overall, I would not recommend working at Timber Ridge due to the toxic work environment, high burnout rate, and policies in place.

Pros

The population you get to work with is great and most of the other therapists are wonderful, kind hearted, genuinely love what they do, and are approachable. As a new clinician to the clinic, you will be required to have 1-hour of mentorship built into your schedule. This is helpful for collaboration and problem solving.

Cons

MUST READ: I felt misled when I interviewed in terms of the opportunity to make "more" money and get the bonuses, as well as professional growth within the company. In order to get a bonus, you need to work tirelessly to reschedule clients and meet a certain number of client hours per week, and it feels unattainable. I was barely making by with the base salary and I had a horrible work-life balance, working until 8pm and constantly thinking about work. The clinic owner encourages employees to write positive reviews in exchange for monetary incentive (paid in "productive hours" that result in higher bonus brackets). Every single one of the 5-star reviews from current employees are because they are desperate to make their productive hours to get bonuses so they get paid a living salary after getting their doctorates. Be careful with what you choose trust from this site. I was very excited to be an employee after seeing the reviews and let me tell you... it is not at all what I expected. Everyone seems to be burnt out and dreads coming to work on Monday, aside from the "senior" employees because they have less client hours and still meet their bonuses to get a livable wage. When you terminate your employment, you sign [a non-legally binding contract] stating that you agree to give 60-days notice and everyday until you hit 60-days, you agree to pay the employer $100-250 a DAY. Also, the clinic owner will make your termination a personal matter and you will feel very uncomfortable walking around the clinic, resulting in a toxic/uncomfortable work environment. I would not recommend this clinic to seasoned/experienced therapists.

As we discussed in your interview, the first year for new graduates is focused on mentorship, skill-building, and providing a supportive environment where therapists can grow clinically. We understand and clearly explain that the bonus structure may not be the primary focus in the early stages of a career, and we aim to provide long-term growth opportunities for those who stay with us. There are many environments that offer higher salaries right away, but they often come with different trade-offs, such as limited mentorship or support. We believe in investing in our staff’s development, and leadership opportunities do typically require at least a year of experience. That said, we are proud to say that we recently promoted a therapist after just 6-months, which speaks to the potential for growth within our organization. Regarding the 60-day notice, this is a policy that is clearly outlined and agreed upon before employment begins. We understand that transitions can be difficult, and this period allows us to properly support our families and find a suitable replacement. It's never intended to be a surprise to our employees. While we respect that not every person will find our environment a fit, we are grateful for the dedicated staff members who have been with us for 5, 10, and even more years. Our team is tight-knit, and we truly care about one another. It’s this close-knit culture that sometimes makes departures feel personal, especially when feedback or discussions aren’t part of the process. I’m sorry that your experience did not align with your expectations, and I appreciate the opportunity to clarify some of the details here for anyone else reading.
