Pros

Pros: • It’s a job if you need one that badly. • The employees are great! Unfortunately, they can’t seem to keep salespeople (it’s a revolving door) although the office staff has not changed in years. I chalk that up to they also haven’t really ever worked anywhere else. • Great industry despite the headwinds

Cons

Cons: • Work environment – Highly Micromaged on all levels - Draconian • Benefits – Very poor. Only major medical with high deductibles. The owners are not even on their own benefits. • PTO is 2 weeks with no opportunity to earn more for office staff depending on the position. Salespeople have it worse, only 8 days with the opportunity to earn additional days if you make your monthly quota. No sick time at all. Minimal holidays off. • No HR Department • Consistent quality problems from their manufacturing operation resulting in constant out of stocks as a result. The norm for a warehouse is to choose which casket with a quality issue can be fixed to be sent to a customer.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at Thacker and we are very sorry it was not a good experience for you. One thing that was a recurring theme in your feedback was the wonderful employees that we have, and you are indeed correct! We have had the pleasure of having many wonderful employees whether that be in sales, warehouse managers/drivers, manufacturing or office staff. At Thacker, we recognize that without the loyalty of all our dedicated employees there is absolutely no way we would be in the position of being the largest family owned and operated supplier to funeral homes. In addition, in your post you acknowledged the move of our company headquarters. At the center of this decision to make a very substantial investment was the professional and personal quality of life of our employees. We are moving from a building that we have been in for almost 30 years and into a brand-new building that will create a fresh working environment. In addition, the location of the new building will also take us away from an area with lots of traffic (DC beltway), translating to long commute times, into an area where our employees can experience less commuting time and ideally a better work/life balance. Between the brand-new environment and substantially less commute - we had our employees at the heart of the decision to make one of the largest investments in company history! Again, we welcome and appreciate the feedback that you provided. We have and will continue to consider input of both former and current employees to make us a better business moving into the future!

Pros

You don’t have to look at them everyday.

Cons

Extreme Micromanagement, Run by Children that never heard the word no, they never do anything wrong, nothing is ever good enough, talk down to you constantly. Blame everything on their Dad... extreme Power struggle family operated company. Benefits are basically non existent. They offer sales a crappy high deductible insurance, but offer the plant workers a different insurance. They do not respect your days off and call you constantly to check up on you, even FaceTime you to see where you are. They make you do notes in a CRM, then a monthly report that just repeats what you have already typed in CRM and they track you by making you put your miles per day between each location. AND to top it off... they offer Zero car allowance or mileage. (They do pay for gas and $1200 a year car maintenance) I would rate them a negative 5 if it would let me.

We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience in working for Thacker. We take all constructive feedback very seriously and feel that it is integral to our growth as a company. A great example of this in relation to your comments is on the benefits issue you addressed - the distribution side of our company currently offers two different health plans for our employees to choose from (one of which has much lower deductibles than in the past plans). They can match which plan best suits their personal needs and now can also elect to become part of a vision or dental plan too! Again, we are sorry for your negative experience, but appreciate any and all constructive feedback from both current and former employees. 360 Degree feedback is what drives us to be a better employer!
