    Pros

    - Great place to start a career
    - Work from home flexibility
    - Development managers can be great motivators

    Cons

    - Most Senior-Level developers left over the past year or two
    - Can be a lot of management involved in development lifecycle
    - Far too much time spent in agile planning/estimation meetings
    - Recognizing and addressing technical debt is met by much resistance
    - Product strategy/priorities change every couple of days to couple of weeks
    - Offshoring created a significant amount of technical debt; and continues to do so
    - Accounting regularly pays invoices from a few days to a month late
    - Very restrictive IP Contract
    - Long support cycles

    Advice to Management

    Look at the product you have, recognize how it got to it's current state, and see how your current planning is either positively or negatively affecting it. Talk to anyone in RnD that works with it if you need clarification.

    Pros

    Good people - good product - nice customers.
    Employees are recognised for their efforts and pay/benefits are very good.
    Members of the Management Team are approachable and well respected.

    Cons

    The UK/US time difference can sometimes be frustrating!

    Advice to Management

    Keep communicating with employees to help everyone understand where the company is heading.

    If you are ambitious, dynamic and driven to succeed, then this company certainly helps you get there!

    Great leadership team!

    Keep doing what you are doing ! The Management Team are extremely supportive. They listen, apply and direct positive actions, not only for employees but also for our customers.

    Pros

    Sparta is a great place to work if you're a motivated, independent person that likes to be part of the company's success. Depending on the department some work is in-house, remote or at a client site, but regardless you always feel part of the team and that your contribution makes a difference.

    Cons

    With global and remote employees you don't often get the face to face interaction more than a few times a year, but all hands meetings do bring the teams together for team bonding

    Pros

    Colleagues, regionally and globally.
    Great team ethos with extremely collaborative ethics.
    If you're hard working, a team player and enthusiastic, then this is the place for you. You reap what you sow and then some.
    The company does not fail it's employees. Especially if you can adapt, learn, constructively seek to progress, want to prove your self and believe in Sparta's values.
    There are plenty of opportunities to grow and succeed, both personally and taking the company forward.

    Cons

    No cons unless you're actively looking for them. Only opportunities to help make us better!

    Advice to Management

    One thing I can say is that Management are extremely supportive through out your career at Sparta. Their encouragement is towards helping you grow and fulfill your ambitions. Like any company, there maybe small areas that could be built on but as a Team this is what gets done best.

    - No micro-management
    - Interesting projects and customers
    - Great balance of customer facing activities and working from home (I am aware that this assessment is subjective)

    - Slow product development
    - management direction used to not always be transparent (applies to previous CEO)

    They will need to adjust their approach in the market quickly before they get completely eaten up by competition. Unfortunately price matters more than just value these days.

    Pros

    Sparta's a small company. You end up knowing most people throughout various departments. People are friendly and approachable, helpful and kind for the most part.

    Cons

    Sparta lacks any form of vision or plan, but they call it "agile". This isn't a new problem, the entire time I've been there it's a series of priority changes (abrupt changes to the entire roadmap) and listening to the loudest customer yelling. There's too much emphasis on trying to not upset some individuals in favor of doing the right thing, which leads to problems for those impacted. Not all departments operate like partners. Customer Support tends to throw things over the wall to R&D to deal with, without getting information from customers about what is not working properly, or what they're expecting. Customer Success tends to build strong relationships within both R&D and our Customers to help fix those problems though.

    Advice to Management

    Figure out how to stop losing good talent. Try to understand their struggles, and how the company's mode of operation has a negative impact all the way down the line. Don't try to cover it, be honest with the teams.
