Pros

Majority of the people who work at SofterWare are sincere, motivated and have integrity for humanity and contribute to the nonprofit industry, which makes it feel more like a meaningful place to work. There are many opportunities for one to advance skill sets in their current role, which makes you more marketable for future career opportunities. There is a lot of potential for this company to evolve into something much bigger then what it has achieved in the last 36 years. Quarterly bonus and yearly profit share is really nice and is a big incentive for why most stay at SofterWare. Changes in the last year have really set the tone for what collaboration and transparency means as a culture within SofterWare, so I can’t imagine this diverting back to the way it used to be when I first started working here years ago.

Cons

Years of service is valued more than years of actual job experience, so if you don’t plan to stay for a while, don’t plan on being promoted or considered for career opportunities….unless you are the small percentage of professional people who consider a lateral move a promotion. There is very little room for upward pay scale opportunities, especially in software development. Executive management hinders middle management when it comes to building and developing their teams, which in return explains why some middle management don’t have actual experience when it comes to business and handling employee personnel issues. Some roles are trying to improve this which is admirable, but if the executive team doesn’t come to terms with this, those individuals will probably just move on.

When I speak with people here at SofterWare, I always hear about how much they enjoy working with their caring and fun co-workers, (and how much they like the breakfast buffet at our Second Friday meetings). One way employees recognize other employees is with our quarterly STAR award (Special Talent and Achievement Recognition Award), which is given to anyone who has made a significant contribution to the company's success or has otherwise demonstrated a particularly outstanding achievement. The fact that employees nominate their co-workers for this award makes the recognition even more special and heartfelt. We are happy to share the success that you contribute to through your quarterly bonus and annual profit sharing contribution. Special tip: if you can keep most of your profit sharing in your 401K, it really grows over time! Thanks for sharing your feedback on ways we can improve. I encourage you to pursue job shadowing and stretch assignments to learn more about other opportunities within SofterWare. Or if you think we need a new position to achieve our goals, come see me and I will walk you through the process to build a business plan. Two employees have recently created business plans resulting in these new positions DonorPerfect Associate Product Manager and our Internal Training and Professional Development Manager. I will share your other recommendations at a future leadership meeting, and I encourage you to please come talk with me so I clearly understand your perspective. Kathy Piunti

Didn’t live up to promises

Pros

Flexible schedule, some nice co workers, plenty of food

Cons

Too many pointless meeting, managers dangling a carrot in front of you to work harder but never deliver on promises. A large amount in over their head with positions they hold. Many were given promotions based on their likeability and nothing else. Working hard is no appreciated as you get say pay & bonus as the people who do nothing most of the day.

Thank you for feedback and your 8+ years of service to SofterWare. We are happy you enjoyed the flexible work arrangement program we offered. We certainly all really miss sharing meals and gathering for other in-person celebrations with all of the wonderful employees of SofterWare. Meetings continue to be a focus for improvement. In fact, we have several meeting resources and tools available to assist our teams in running meetings efficiently and effectively. We continuously evaluate and improve upon our processes and programs to help employees achieve their career goals including promotions, new positions, increasing and/or developing new skills and responsibilities. As part of our new one-on-one monthly manager meetings, career goals and planning is a major focus. We follow a structured and consistent interview and selection process for every open position we fill, both internally and externally. Thank you for sharing your perspective on the pay and incentives as another potential area for us to focus. Our goal is to provide a base salary and quarterly incentives to employees based on their individual accomplishments as well as their efforts in achieving goals that contribute to the success of SofterWare. As for staff performance, we work with employees privately if there are areas of opportunity for them to improve their performance to delight our customers. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Kathy Piunti, Vice President of HR
