Pros

When I worked with Smart my immediate team members and manager were great to work with. Was not a perfect company, but at the time management was willing to listen and change to help improve culture.

Cons

This company is being ruined by one bad executive decision after another. Execs have alienated Canadian staff by consistently implying that they can get better talent in Seattle, but have failed to establish a viable Seattle office while throwing great Canadian talent away. Moral is low and most people are just waiting for another round of layoffs as the company bleeds through operating expenses, while the execs have paid themselves large bonuses after 3 of the worst years on record. If you are a Canadian looking to apply, don't bother, the CEO does not' consider Canadians a top source of talent and has systematically closed and laid off a large amount of Canadian staff to support their failing Seattle office.

Pros

At one time the company was an exciting and very progressive place to be an I worked with some very talented and excellent people.

Cons

Unfortunately a lot of the excellent people have since paid the price of poor management strategy and leadership, with changes in direction following poor results being an annual event. the latest strategy of placing all bets on a single product strategy while foundering on what to do with legacy products now also seems to be failing.

Pros

-Amount of time off was great -Really switched on middle management and staff

Cons

Everything else - the Executive leaders are completely incompetent. When the CEO Neil Gaydon and CTO Warren Barkley took over 4 years ago, everyone was excited to have people who had good looking resumes...that did nothing to help the fortune of the company, in fact I would question those resumes because they are incompetent. Over their time, the share price dropped to a low of 20 cents (the IPO was $17 six years ago), revenues declined, decisions made to get out of certain products/ markets too soon and launching the disastrous kapp board which almost bankrupted the company and was an utter failure, resulted in the company losing focus from improving existing products and innovating. Last I heard, they continue to have jobs. Staff hated them and have no respect for those two, as they treat staff horribly, and under their watch have seen now hundreds of departures. Their mandate was to turn the company around, they sure did but in the wrong direction. Complete failures in their roles.
