I have been working at SAIT part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great coworkers and benefits as a student

    Cons

Very shady BoD and Executive council who spend a little too much on their company outings when other lesser positions get their salary cut due to issues with the budget. A budget made-up of SAIT students money.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the executive council's lavish salary. Fix your budget, treat your employees that tend your businesses (The only students in the company) better.

I have been working at SAIT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is parking on campus, but it will cost you a quarter of your paycheque.

    Cons

The management are micromangers and bullies. This organization has some of the worst management I have ever seen. I believe staff may get 'bully points' and when they have built up enough of them they are promoted to management

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to what your management staff are doing. Currently you're running one of the most demoralizing organizations I've ever worked at.

I have been working at SAIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It has a nice view of downtown

    Cons

Mid-level management are very political. They are not there to build a team, they are there to get ahead, regardless of who they have to demoralize to get there.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to who you have in your management positions. If there is a lot of turnover in a department there is likely a reason.

I worked at SAIT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, excellent co-workers.

    Cons

Leadership and management spend little time supporting your development or advancement. They make this claim repeatedly, then you have no opportunity to develop your skills or attend training or seminars as you are constantly swamped doing the management team’s work. Lots of criticism, very little of it constructive.

    Advice to Management

You need to hire leaders, not micromanagement. You hire people based on their ability and merit, it’s very difficult to strive in an environment that smothers you.

I have been working at SAIT (More than a year)

    Pros

The jobs are secure because they're union. The Starbucks is close by (you won't have enough money though).

    Cons

The management (if we can call it that), is atrocious. There is no room for development or to learn more skills.

    Advice to Management

Give people a chance to develop new skills and grow in their roles and they will likely last longer. If server subordinates complain about the same manager, take it seriously. You are losing good people.
