Pros

The work is easy, and there is a lot of micromanagement but generally by unqualified managers so it's easy to fly under the radar. Salaries are low, but most work can be done with five or ten hours a week. Fully remote culture.

Cons

For ambitious people, there is very little room for growth and improvement. If you've ever seen office space, that's what you get here. Five managers, all of whom treat you like children to the point of not letting even senior technical staff manage their own schedule and schedule their own meetings. Significant disconnect between the goals that leadership sets and the work being done by ICs. Full of yes-men. "Blameless problem solving" is instead interpreted as "nobody has any responsibility for anything". Recently laid off 25% of the staff with no notice, even much of the management staff was unaware it was happening. I was (fortunately or unfortunately) not part of that, but it's certainly my last straw and time to look elsewhere. Sadly, there is a lot of potential. The company is allegedly trying to transition from being a data company to a SaaS company, but very little work is being done to actually acquire SaaS business and improve the SaaS offering. The company is led by people who were around during the data-focused side of things, and there are no trusted technical leaders to help them adapt. There are a few unicorn staff members who other companies would pay many hundreds of thousands of dollars to employ who are capable of leading the company through this transition, but senior leadership has shut them down and forced them into no-impact IC roles.

Pros

Free food in the kitchen. A few stellar colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge and teach you what they know; they make it tolerable for a while until they too get burnt out. Office has a great view of the Financial District.

Cons

Management doesn't manage people; "HR" is run by the person who also controls company finances and as such people are afraid of potentially losing their job if they speak up to "HR". As others have said, it's the people who deliver the report / the results to the C-levels who are the people who are promoted, NOT the people doing the actual work in the trenches and putting in the very long hours. The people on the ground get to keep on putting in long hours for pay that is FAR BELOW industry norms ($80,000 for a developer / software engineer in NYC). Medivo doesn't have a product. The business idea for what 'product' should be cobbled together with duct tape and screaming about deadlines changes every few months, resulting in very long hours for the technology team as they scramble to implement the latest decree handed down from above. Extremely little promotion / career advancement. You may get a shiny new title and that comes with increased responsibilities (and increased time commitment from you!) for no extra pay. Employees were routinely verbally abused by their supervisors and no recourse was available (see HR comment above as well as other reviewers' comments)

Pros

Office location was great and I really enjoyed working with most of the people. I was able to learn a lot quickly because there was so much to do. My boss was great and she cared about my success.

Cons

Executive leadership was always at each other's throats. It seemed to be encouraged by the CEO. It made it hard for the rest of us to concentrate or feel secure in our jobs. The CFO was especially harsh. He made it clear that people didn't matter.
