Horrifying Treatment of Employees

Pros

There are literally no positives.

Cons

Most toxic workplace I have ever experienced. Excessive employee turnover. 11 employees left in less than two years (total staff averaged about 15 employees over this time). Unorganized, chaotic communication leads to constant confusion. Management/CEO spends most of their time having employees patch up self-inflicted errors. No one knows what to do. Several employees who left the company at their own will (not let go by the company) cited verbal abuse from management/CEO. Sub-group of favored employees, who receive more favorable treatment, rarely show up for work, without taking PTO, leaving their work to be done by others. Be aware that current employees were offered compensation to leave positive reviews on Glassdoor (and are therefore biased) because the company is unable to find qualified applicants, due to such poor departing employee reviews. If you're a licensed financial professional, be prepared to have your ethical boundaries pushed to their limits. Management/CEO often goes against ethical/compliance advice from employees. Management/CEO puts profit motive ahead of employee and client's best interests consistently.

Pros

Friday afternoons off, decent 401k and health benefits

Cons

One of the most dysfunctional places I’ve ever worked at. The owner routinely comes in and takes people away from their assigned work at random with no warning to complete a task he needs done 5 minutes ago. He will continue to add things he needs immediately throughout the day which makes it very hard to stay focused and on task. Management tries to intervene but the owner walks all over them if he’s inconvenienced in any way. Any positive change in the owner’s attitude only lasts a week tops. It’s an extremely stressful environment in which everyone is doing the jobs of 2-3 people. They will throw small mistakes in your face and not even think about why people are making mistakes (they’re working on 10 completely different things at once while answering the company phones). I can tell you with confidence that nobody who isn’t an advisor or contractor feels the way the positive reviews illustrate. They are all written in the same style saying the same things, presumably written by management.

Toxic Management

Business outlook

Pros

You’ll get a lot of stress management practice

Cons

Management is toxic and oblivious. They will use the weight of their position to target employees who they have a personal problem with. They actively talk negatively about current and former employees, even with new hires. They will refuse accountability or shift the blame to their subordinates. They’re not truly managers because nothing happens without the approval of the owner, who will make a policy and break it in the same day. Rules for thee.
