Pros

Great opportunities for lateral transfers within information systems and to the business side. Given the global nature of the company and the scope of the business, there are many opportunities to work with different problems and solutions

Cons

The more seniority you have within information systems, the less likely you are to have any type of technical work to do. Within 2 - 3 years, expect to spend the large majority of your time managing contractors or junior programmers and little or no time actually writing code or even designing applications. The company also lags behind in technology within the information systems area (but not the @Labs side). Developer workstations are severely locked down and obtaining development tools or libraries beyond the vanilla standard (Visual Studio, Eclipse) can take months, if they are even approved.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
