Pros

You get a paycheck, kind of.

Cons

Plant is full of felons and drug use is out of control. Drivers sell drugs on route and to managers. Trucks are in the worst possible shape, their sent out daily with the hope that you don't get pulled over. Most of the trucks don't have a radio and a/c is considered a "luxury". Having an a/c during a Texas summer shouldnt be a luxury it should be a requirement. Considering the inside of the trucks can reach temps of 110 and up and after running your route you have to unload and load your own truck. Company is out of date. Everything has to be written up, nothing is automated. Pay is a slap in the face, especially considering the hours put in. In my position I regularly work 12-14 hour days starting at 5:00am and my weekly pay is $650.00 before taxes. That is anywhere from $11.00 - 13.00 per hour (before taxes), as a supervisor. Needles to say but there is no such thing as work / life balance, you will have no quality of life.

Thank you for your feedback. At UniFirst, we take our Substance Abuse and Drug Free Workplace Policy very seriously. All employees are required to go through a pre-employment background check and drug screen, and must pass in order to be considered for a position. They must also complete a training module on substance and drug abuse as part of the new hire process. As a written condition of employment, all employees must refrain from drug abuse. Abuse of our Drug Free Workplace policy will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. All newly hired/promoted supervisors and managers must go through training to recognize substance abuse in the workplace so that the situation can be resolved. UniFirst offers insurance to our Team Partners to seek treatment if a substance abuse problem occurs. Concerning how many of our processes currently need to be “written up” at our company is something we are diligently working on. We are in the process of reducing our need for paper with our Unity 20/20 platform. Unity 20/20 will streamline our processes because most work will be digital and/or mobile, it will GREATLY reduce time and paperwork, and ultimately result in better service for our Customers. In Service, most days will be longer than a standard 8 hour work day. Working in a Service Department at one of our locations is a unique opportunity for individuals driven not by a 9-5 schedule, but by a desire to have freedom in their day, work hard, serve customers, and learn the operations of our business. Our compensation and benefits package is very competitive for the industry. Our District Supervisor position is an entry level supervisory role that prepares one for a District Service Manager position; but not without hard work. For those who prove themselves, a promotion and increase in compensation will come when the opportunity presents itself.

Pros

They are better than the competition in a lot of ways. You get a $50.00 voucher for Thanksgiving groceries every year. Very little micromanagement . You get a lot of free time to improve your skills. If you get a sales manager who cares they will help you be the best . Sometimes they do a great job and customers are very happy. Great group meetings that really fire people up. Branch manager is amazing . Regional sales director is amazing.

Cons

You'll be embarrassed when every other account you sell has an issue on the first day of installation. What they teach you in training sounds amazing, but often what your customers get is comedically bad. Like it was scripted for a movie about a company that is so bad that its funny how unbelievable it is . When you sell an account , you'll sometimes be given an update as to when it will be installed. But most of the time you are left in the dark, and so is your customer. Management emphasizes your numbers over and over but doesn't work to make you better . Management belittles sales reps in front of others. Big emphasis on selling , but when you have a question that you need to move a sale along, they tell you to wait and don't get back to you. Processes change and no one tells you, causing you to have to redo work. You will work have to work at least 12 hours every day if you want to be successful.
