Pros

Development, retail experience, great discount, was a great place to develop knowledge and skills in the beauty industry.

Cons

Pay. Upper management is ridiculous. Turn over rate is the highest I've seen. Little to no training working staff to the bone then after reprimand for going into over time. Do not care about their employees. Unreasonable work load for managers. The only way you can move up in this company is if you're favored by the DM. Hard work is not enough. You'll never see gratis unless you're a prestige beauty advisor or prestige manager. Even though beauty advisors sell high end products as well no real rewards for them. Unrealistic goals for understaffed stores. That are only understaffed because upper management runs everyone away. No hours to keep anyone but Management. Unfair and hostile environment with management . Spends loads of money on revamping logos and fonts refuses to pay anything over minimum wage. Dumps tons of waste into environment. Claims that customers are the most Important, doesn't fund hours for staff to actual assist customers. I've personally worked at multiple stores in multiple districts. I have seen managers abuse associates not allow breaks or lunches. I have seen never seen HR actual help anyone. Just came out with a credit card which is just another unrealistic goal to set for cashiers who aren't making a living wage. I can't even comment on salon.

Pros

If you like helping people find skincare and makeup that suits them, it's a nice place to be--plus you get to take home some products for free every once in a while as gratis!

Cons

Your Ulta credit card is in danger of being heavily used--whoops! Also, even if you really know your stuff and are in the middle of speaking with customers, if they need someone at the register, they will replace you on the floor with a Prestige Beauty Advisor, which was always super disappointing. Especially if you've already established rapport with the guest and their cart is getting full. Also, customers have shared feeling racially profiled, being closely followed. Not cool. Something to keep in mind so you don't accidentally do that if you're part of the team.
