Pros

Well, as a part-time job, (I had another job that was very high paying outside the company which I hid from them) it was decent enough. If you can get into a Department, It'll be much better. I started @ $11\hr and after one year of solid service, went up to 11.25\hr ( not an increase that would motivate people). The training (once your in a Dept. was decent enough). My fellow co-workers were hilarious to work with. The Upper Mangers sucked.

Cons

The management of my store sucked. I know this for a fact because within two short years each one of them, Store Manager and all the ASM's had been walked out the door (of course after they had walked me out as well). I was walked out because of my job that I had outside of the store that I didn't tell them about. They realized that I made pretty good money outside the store and decided that I was no longer needed. I was an excellent employee, but that didn't matter to them. They don't really want an independent, self starter who could think for themselves kinda person. They want people who are dependant on being told what to do who will work for nothing while the Managers get all the bonuses. That's just a fact. I have since moved to a competitor who pays a far better salary, has better benefits and better working conditions. Its not even a comparison. Work there for a year or two if you need the money, and then move on. Don't worry about giving two weeks notice, just walk out or don't show up ever again. They won't give references if your other employer calls so why give them any notice?

Pros

The Home Depot has a solid moral compass. They aren't about sacrificing their ethics for the sake of a sale, which I love. They also hire a diverse group of people and give a lot back to the community. They offer a lot of benefits and little treats for their employees. Although they push their associates to meet quota, they're realistic about what can and can't be accomplished.

Cons

Home Depot has two different sides to it. Store associates and those of us considered "store support" who are payed by the vendors but work in the stores 100% of the time. I constantly hear about how store associates are stressed out by management and their hours are being rearranged a lot, cut, and they often are stretched thin due to lack of full staffing. "Store support" associates who do merchandising have it better than those who work in specific departments. However, you never really gain knowledge unless you have the time to look things up and read packaging.
