Working for Sharp Health Plan is: An opportunity to learn the ins and outs of health care industry, through your respective job lens; An experience of true organizational change, both incremental and revolutionary, both internal and external; A chance to serve the individuals, workers, and families in our local SD region, who deserve the best health coverage at the best price possible. I appreciate that there's always something new to learn. And there are so many opportunities to effect positive, systemic change. For me, these opportunities present themselves through mastering/streamlining processes and workflows. How can we make this more reliable? I love that we are encouraged to think in this way. Institutions and workplaces with stringent cultures don't allow room for creative thought. The overall Sharp system does a good job of encouraging it.
Cons
This is a tough industry that demands perfection. It can feel super stressful, like everything is a crisis. Sometimes the current tools we have aren't right for what we need to achieve. Often there really is just a ton of work to do... These are the moments where we are really pushed to think creatively and strategically, to think about what we have access to and how we can leverage our existing resources. To take a beat, and breathe. It also helps to remember how our day-to-day work is meant to serve our greater vision: to be the best place to work/practice medicine/receive care, and to be the best health care system in the universe. It may seem impossible, but that's why we're striving for it.
