Pros

As other reviews say, the actual professionals doing the work. Incredibly smart, talented, and committed workforce. People that were hired prior to the hiring freezes last year are all fantastic Good PTO policy and benefits

Cons

The covid-time messaging from the CEO was that we were always going to be committed to a flexible and hybrid policy. While many companies mandated a return to office, for STEMCELL this was a sudden 180 degree turn from previous messaging. As a company of scientists, at the annual company meeting the question was asked how the increased productivity and collaboration (both given as reasons for RTO) would be measured. The answer to which was that the CEO misses the sounds of people laughing in the conference rooms. So, to get it straight, the hundreds of people that rearranged their lives on promises of flexibility are now being forced to commute to the office (with no free parking either), for the CEO to hear them giggling. Such decisions over the last few years have been eroding the trust of many employees at all levels, from associates to directors. As late as 3-4 years ago, you could feel a real sense of pride speaking with fellow workers about our workplace. Now, this is overshadowed by fear for our jobs and deep seeded mistrust and anger.

Pros

Good quality products. Dedicated individual contributors, intelligent colleagues.

Cons

Living in a bubble. They still think they are in the 90s. The thinking is painstakingly slow. Senior management including VPs and senior VPs are extremely inbred in their thinking. They are all perfectly aligned in completely wrong direction. They do the bare minimum and some cannot even hold a decent intellectual conversation. There is a ton of favoritism and only yes men get promoted so everyone is ‘aligned’. If you want to do mundane level thinking and kill your creativity and innovative spirit join this company. It has gotten worse in the last few years. Those currently there are dying to leave but just hanging by the last thread just because the current market is so tight that there is nowhere to go. The senior execs are there for 15-20 years no because they are loyal but because they know they cannot find any other employer who would tolerate their slow thinking.
