Pros

The best reason to be work at Ross is that employment provides a paycheck. Another benefit is the possible ability to network and gain access to a good employer.

Cons

There are no bonuses for hourly workers (assistant mgr and supervisors are exceptions), and raises are given once a year. The raise is between 10-50 cents, and most workers earn a 15-30 cent raise. Corporate has virtually no contact with hourly employees, and complaints to HR are usually dismissed. Promotions only occur when an employee quits or is fired. It is very difficult for an employee to be fired: I have seen employees assault, harass, and steal from Ross and other employees; the overwhelming majority of these cases fails to end with terminations. Breaks are typically cut short and not compensated, and certain management members take frequent smoking breaks within 15 feet of the store entrance. In addition, the shifters are typically understaffed, and restrooms consistently run out of tissue, paper towels, soap, and seat covers.

Pros

Even though this is with my store specifically I got really lucky with my coworkers. Every season change there is 40% off for about a week other than that is 20%. They also have scholarship opportunities.

Cons

It’s a really physical job, sometimes it’s so busy that you can’t even take a break especially during Christmas season, you WILL debate working there during that time. The store hours are horrible and since most of the time were understaffed we won’t leave until almost midnight just cleaning up.
