Pros

There are no pros to working at the reading store.

Cons

The reading store is without any doubt a bad store to work at. You are just a number to the managers. Dont expect them to care about your welfare. This store is doing its best in getting rid of the permanent staff and replacing them with flexi staff who are on 3 month contracts. Dont like hiring people over a certain age as this means they have to pay them more in wages. A high number of the managers hide away in the office for hours on end leaving the supervisors (some of whom are a waste of space) to hold the fort. There is always something broken in the store. The air con breaks at least once a month as do both the male and female toilets break. Anything that does break down takes weeks to get fixed. The toilets are so disgusting there are lots of bugs coming up the plughole from the shower room and the bug are in the toilets and even the changing rooms. Ask for sick notes for stupid reasons even when it is obvious what is wrong. Managment dont care about any illness you get and will just demand to know when you are returning to work. Have no clue about when to require a sicknote and think they know better than a doctors advice and opinion. Staff discount is only for a few weeks a year unlike most companys who give you a lot of benifits. Health and safety is non existant. Shelves put anywhere. Boxs stacked too high and their is dust everywhere. Staff morale is at an all time low here with many long term staff looking to leave asap. They ave also stated that full time staff and Monday to Friday part time staff are no longer guaranted bank holidays off work which has not improved the mood in the store. My advice to anybody thinking of applying for a job here is do not apply for a job here.

Pros

You get lots of PTO up front as a part timer and can gain flex hours overtime. Get a 50 cent raise every six months.

Cons

Was told during onboarding that if a Christian comes into the store spreading the gospel, I have to kick them out. This includes the mention of the Jesus without the church invite. Managers claim its rude and if a customer does it, they get booted. Faced harassment from a customer and management didn't let me switch too a different department. Extremely high turnover rate and managers don't replace them, making your job more stressful during peak hours. Hard to use PTO. Little to no training. Too many bachelor and master holding part timers who get lucked out of moving up in the company. Managers give some people no task while pilling on multiple tasks on one person. Too many managers to deal with (and usually never find) and the full timers make you do the dirty work while they "unpack boxes". Its a pro-LGBT anti christian company. If they want to be pro-LGBT, than more power to them. But anti-Christian is discriminatory and unnecessary.
