Pros
The positive side of Lush’s ethical branding is that it genuinely attracts people who share similar values. This creates a great environment with supportive colleagues and friendly customers. In my experience, my team was lovely, and I had many meaningful conversations and consultations with customers. The staff discount is 50% off, and you also receive two free products per month (in small sizes).
Cons
Unfortunately, the company’s ethical stance doesn’t fully extend to working conditions. The role pays minimum wage, despite requiring staff to learn extensive product knowledge (often in personal time without compensation) and to deliver detailed, enthusiastic consultations. Although employees are described as “specialists” on the website, the recognition and pay don’t reflect that responsibility. Management can also feel confusing at times, as you may receive different instructions from different people. During Christmas, the workload is significantly heavier but not better compensated. Taking vacation in November and December is not allowed, and Sundays are paid at the standard rate with no additional compensation.
