Pros
-Can transfer between departments relatively easily -Is a secure job - usually is hard to get laid off in this position (they need coders) -Benefit from experienced colleagues who has worked on various systems for years (if not decades) to help mentor you
Cons
-Depending on where you land up, the technology used may not be the most recent -Lots of legacy code if not working on a new project -Lots of bureaucracy (twice as much since both working with US government and also with a large coorperation)
