Pros

Best boss I've ever had. Jacobs really cares about safety. I can't say one negative word about Jacobs ethically; which really matters more to me than I realized at the time. Doing so much with so few, really prepares you to succeed at your next job.

Cons

No one in our group really had HR support; that is, I can't say I remember ever meeting anyone from HR (face-to-face) in the final four years. This was due to Tullahoma or Dallas leadership considering every single thing (HR to coffee filters) as an impediment to winning new business in the competitive, zero overhead world of Federal Contracting. When I was hospitalized for something life threatening, a person in Security from another state (whom I never met) sent HR documents because no one in HR could be bothered. I got zero help from HR during that entire event; except making sure I had a Doctor's signature to return to work. Basically, Jacob's lack of liability was their only focus. I never received out-processing, because HR and Security just couldn't be bothered. Oh, I signed a document for my Clearance because I got an generic email, but I know for a fact that it was not processed; basically, zero humanity. I believe it is reasonable to interpret my experience as: I was intentionally and systematically tricked out of benefits by the single, choreographed phone call I received from HR in my final year. After nine years at the same title, almost constantly trying to seek any opportunity, I was gone like an emptied trash can, overnight. Still respect and love a handful of coworkers. I feel the same way about Jacobs as I do about college: happy to have it on my resume, but I can't expect for the people in the front office to think of me as an individual.

Pros

Strong learning environment for entry-level engineers Great exposure to large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects with experienced mentors and structured onboarding. Reputable global firm Jacobs’ strong brand name adds credibility to your résumé and opens doors for future opportunities in both public and private sectors. Good career growth and mobility Clear pathways to move into roles like Project Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, or Construction Management with internal postings encouraged. Supportive team culture (project-dependent) Most teams are collaborative, and senior staff are willing to guide junior engineers, especially in inspection and CM roles. Competitive benefits and job stability Solid health benefits, 401(k), PTO, and steadier work compared to smaller consulting firms—especially on long-term public agency contracts.

Cons

Growth pace depends on manager and project Advancement and role expansion can vary widely based on leadership and available opportunities.
