Pros

HubSpot really walks the walks in so many ways with their values and follow through. I particularly appreciate and adore the DI&B efforts at this company. I find that top down transparency is better than anywhere else I have worked. I have psychological safety in the workplace with my team. There is really not much that HubSpot does wrong. Unlimited Paid Time Off is a perk that workers actually use, with the exception of Sales, really. The flexibility to work remotely is wonderful and modernizing with the times. My VERY favorite thing about HubSpot is their focus on mental health and their willingness to put their employees first in much more tangible ways. In 2021, they announced their first ever week of rest in which the entire company will take a week off to combat the burnout we have felt from the pandemic. Moving around this company once you are in is incredibly easy to do and nearly everyone does it. This is a huge bonus. Get your foot in the door and move around!

Cons

The biggest let down of HubSpot has been discovering some gender pay gap issues. The lack of salary transparency has proven to be because there are equity differences they are not proud of- not just by gender gap but amongst people with the same roles. With all of the values and follow through that HubSpot gets right, this feels like a massive and important miss. I think that there is an opportunity for HubSpot to get radical with their salary transparency and become an industry trend setter. The core values of HubSpot don't agree with this issue being allowed to continue. There is also a shocking amount of disorganization that was acceptable as such a small company, but with this huge and rapid growth, the systems needed to keep up. I will say they are absolutely doing the work to make improvements across all departments, but anyone who comes from equally large companies over to HubSpot WILL be shocked.

Thanks so much for the feedback here and the push--we have taken a bunch of steps on pay equity pushes (to the level that our board pushes on it), but there's no question we need to ensure we are both clear and transparent on it long-term, it's critical to our long-term inclusion approach. Moreover, I think your point that we are still finding the balance between significant growth (exciting) and process, so totally fair push there, thanks for sharing! -Katie

Pros

The teams you work with are phenomenal. The knowledge combination between an internal customer facing teams, engineering product development teams, and Sales are unmatched.

Cons

Excessive use of PIPs to oust employees after multiple high revenue launches, with no explanation, actual documentation, or factual data. Reviews have been adjusted to allow for terminations post pre-approved leaves. Salaries are a joke. You are always in a cover yourself mode 24/7. Management reviews are consistently a 2 or 3 out of 5 no matter what. If a team decides you aren’t in the group, management will put you on a “unofficial” PIP without telling you, in order to surprise you at a later date. Even if they are unfounded. Beware of possibility of negative backlash post launches. They will feel the need to assign blame ( such as for timelines or issues related to bugs). Regardless of performance or level of involvement. This is an enormous company with many large paths for career advancement. But micro management is rampant, leaving little room for doing the daily expectations of your actual role. This degrades your opportunities for career advancement.
