Pros

HubSpot is an incredible company and I am still excited to come into work every day several years into my tenure. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better tech company in the area, especially as an engineer. Business wise, stock and metrics continue to improve. Growth is difficult to sustain and not easy, but I'm bullish that we will continue to find ways. The company is not perfect, but the best thing about the culture is that it is willing to admit faults and improve where things are not great. * increased investment and revamping of training and leadership * always introspective, refining, improving processes and culture * transparency of operations and business from top down * growing, lots of hiring, opportunities to move up * great office, perks (coffee garden, tea, barista, ping pong, beer, snacks) * strong, trusted leadership * smart coworkers * flexibility in time * overall a fun environment to work in, great social events * autonomy, power to have impact

Cons

Naturally as the company has grown, the only constant has been change - which is fine. But HubSpot, like most growing startups/scaleups is not great at change management. There is good transparency, but that does not necessarily equate to good communication. There is thrash at times because the org structure does not support the goals that leadership sets for the company (which seem directionally correct, but execution is lacking). The company is very young and lacks diversity in many areas (race, women in leadership, etc), though there is a genuine effort to improve here.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review--I think your push on autonomy is a good way, and I agree we likely need a bit more guardrails and clarity for folks on the front line. We are working really hard to move the needle on both diversity and inclusion, but still work to be done as you said. Lastly, I love that you called out our introspective nature as a company--we are always trying to grow, iterate, and improve, and I'm glad to hear that shines through in your experience. Thanks for helping HubSpot grow. Sincerely, Katie

Pros

The teams you work with are phenomenal. The knowledge combination between an internal customer facing teams, engineering product development teams, and Sales are unmatched.

Cons

Excessive use of PIPs to oust employees after multiple high revenue launches, with no explanation, actual documentation, or factual data. Reviews have been adjusted to allow for terminations post pre-approved leaves. Salaries are a joke. You are always in a cover yourself mode 24/7. Management reviews are consistently a 2 or 3 out of 5 no matter what. If a team decides you aren’t in the group, management will put you on a “unofficial” PIP without telling you, in order to surprise you at a later date. Even if they are unfounded. Beware of possibility of negative backlash post launches. They will feel the need to assign blame ( such as for timelines or issues related to bugs). Regardless of performance or level of involvement. This is an enormous company with many large paths for career advancement. But micro management is rampant, leaving little room for doing the daily expectations of your actual role. This degrades your opportunities for career advancement.
