Pros

- Amazing benefits and amenities. Great place for people with families to support. Cafe/courts/gym is pretty nice to have, Very, very generous employee discount on products - Engineering focused place with former IC's/engineers/generally competent people in management roles. Surprisingly not as common in the real world as I thought, Garmin is good about getting quality managers from what I've seen - Lot of friendly, smart, helpful people with a lot of experience. One of the first things I've noticed is how many people have worked there for significant portions of their career. There definitely are a lot of positives that inspire loyalty in a lot of people. - Also from what I've seen, seems like a place where the company actually cares about their employees and wants to see them grow. This depends on the situation but I've seen an emphasis on making sure people who want to move up have opportunities to do so

Cons

- They are getting rid of hybrid work schedule - Salary isn't quite at the top of the market but they are able to get away with it due to the really good benefits - This will depend on your role and experience but I tend to see key IC's get pushed really hard, although this certainly isn't unique to Garmin. - Seems like some teams suffer chronic understaffing or have retention issues, like due to responsibility vs pay, or not enough money going towards the team. Again not an issue unique to Garmin or very common here but I have noticed it

Pros

Good benefits and work life balance. It's a good culture and I've never worked at a place where your immediate peers are this helpful and pleasant to work with, even across teams and offices. If you want to just come in and do just what is required for your job and go home with the knowledge you have a stable job, this is the perfect place to work. I'd only recommend working here if you just want a job, but don't care about a career.

Cons

There is poor career advancement, especially if you aren't male. Leadership does not care about leading people. The RTO has made working here less appealing. The excuse that you can't collaborate unless you are in the same building makes no sense when you work with people in 6 different countries. It is about control and appearances, all due to incredibly poor senior leadership strategies. The pay is also low and so is the quality of the software you work on. Leadership likes to talk quality, but they like fast and cheap. They will not support you in actual software quality nor implement changes to improve it. The same issues happen over and over without improvement.
