Pros

Note: from an IT employee’s perspective EM’s scale, sheer complexity, and balance sheet still offer massive opportunity to learn and work with fairly modern systems and technology for a fair number of its workers. For a select few that are either tagged as “executive potential” or those with personal drive/motivation to “grow and move on”, ExxonMobil IT offers a wealth of opportunity.

Cons

Note: from an IT employee’s perspective Years of brain drain, consisting of many talented employees at all levels (up to and including executive ranks) globally, coupled with a corporate mandate to offshore and outsource IT have left the organization crippled and on the verge of system failures on the same level as operating incidents already experienced in ExxonMobil’s business units over the past few years.

Pros

Good opportunities for networking and travel.

Cons

A significant HR issue between interns occurred during my internship and was handled very poorly. Once the matter came to HR’s and leadership’s attention, it was not officially resolved until months after the internship had ended. The VP privately apologized for the situation, but the overall response was inadequate and felt as though the situation was being swept under the rug. The lack of timely communication and follow-up created a very uncomfortable environment for a young intern and significantly impacted what was otherwise a positive internship experience.
