Pros

- Looks excellent on a resume if you want to be in PR. - Excellent client roster. - Free Shake Shack sometimes.

Cons

- Women are promoted significantly less often than men; the junior workforce is 85% women and senior management is 85% men. - People absolutely fudge their hours to boost their utilization rate, which especially sucks for nonprofit clients. - Diversity is nonexistent. Edelman employees are largely white, from upper-class backgrounds, hyper-extroverted, non-disabled. - The 360 review process allows coworkers who are literally competing with you for promotions to weigh in on whether you advance or not. - Managers can be hit or miss -- mine pretty much forgot I existed until I put in my 2 weeks notice, and then she refused to look at or speak to me (not even a "farewell"). - Hyper-competitive environment. - Work-life balance is nonexistent - I regularly worked 9am-9pm and then was expected to be "on call" when I left the office.

Edelman Response

I'm disappointed to hear that you had a less than ideal experience at Edelman and I’d welcome the opportunity to talk if you’re willing to share more specific feedback about work/life balance, your review experience, your work environment or anything else (maria.okeeffe@edelman.com). I was also concerned to read the stats you included about diversity. While increasing diverse representation of our staff continues to be a major priority, I want to take a moment to share our current stats for anyone else reading this. In the U.S., four out of five geography presidents are women (80%), which is in addition to our female US COO, US CFO and Chief Talent Officer. Our US workforce is currently more than 25% racially and ethnically diverse and over 50% of our EVP and above employees are female. We are actively working to improve further, while taking care to prioritize inclusion initiatives, as well. Thanks for your review and I hope to hear from you. Maria O'Keeffe, Executive Director US HR.

Pros

Edelman gives you real exposure to senior leaders, complex work, and smart people. You can learn a lot quickly, build strong relationships, and get close to how decisions are made. There are also good opportunities to take on meaningful projects if you are proactive and willing to speak up.

Cons

The pace can be a lot, and the work can feel reactive at times. Priorities shift quickly and roles often expand beyond the original scope without always having clear boundaries, title growth, or compensation changes. Career growth is possible, but you often have to advocate for it yourself. Overall, Edelman can be a great place to grow if you are adaptable, organized, and comfortable with ambiguity. It works best when you have strong leaders, clear expectations, and support around workload and growth. That last part is impossible to control, so may the odds be in your favor.
