Citi can be a stable and comfortable place to work once you are there for a while. But its soul is dead. - Senior Systems Engineer Citi Employee Review

Pros

There is a culture of mediocrity, bureaucracy and indifference at Citi. That can mean a comfortable and somewhat relaxed work environment. If one has some degree of competence and had a moderate amount of integrity about the work they do, they will be valued at Citi and their jobs will be quiet safe, routine and comfortable. Many people love that, set their life priorities to be outside of the workplace and simply earn a living at Citi. At Citi you don't rock the boat, you go with the flow, hunker down and do what you are told. Very slowly but surely, if you are good at this, you will ascend up the command chain. At times it gets very hectic, there are many "emergencies" to deal with whenever anything has to actually get done with expedience. But in the end, I've never seen a missed deadline actually matter in my 6.5 years there.

Cons

Compensation is mediocre at best. Bonuses are nonexistent if your job doesn't bring actual profit to the firm in a direct way (trading, sales, etc). Quality of benefits has dropped like a rock since 2007. A lot of mediocre people at the firm, especially in middle management. Can be very frustrating. Very silo'ed, segregated environment. People and groups first look at whether they can legitimately transfer work onto somebody else or have it not get done before looking at how to serve the client or project. NOT A MERITOCRACY by any stretch of the imagination. The best and brightest do NOT get ahead at Citi.

Pros

Great benefits and work/life balance if you're on the right team.

Cons

Having a bad manager dictates everything about your job. You will see no upward mobility or compensation improvement if you are under a poor manager.
