Pros

-Cengage is a large company so lots of people and personalities but in general the folks I have been fortunate to work with over the years have encouraged me, challenged me and made me better. Great people seem to be a common theme. -Be your Own CEO! This has limits but we really have been encouraged to think outside of the box, collaborate, and share our successes and failures with others. -Recent bold moves like Cengage Unlimited have positioned us to have real conversations around student affordability and offer real options to partner with institutions to improve the overall student experience. -MindTap has been a very successful platform and has made student's/faculty's transformation to digital a good overall experience. -Great Benefits and bonus plan and it seems like Cengage has been successful at recruiting good talent from the competition. -Just started my 14th year and all things considered my career at Cengage has been a blessing. -Management team is responsive and very willing to assist if asked but not likely manage you through every task or negotiation.

Cons

-Publishing industry as a whole is not very stable and lots of great people and top talent have lost their positions over the last 5+ years. -Multiple acquisitions, some have made Cengage stronger and some have been distractions.

Pros

Company has some interesting approaches to the market and in the past they seemed value employees. There are some good employees there and there was, in the past, visionary leadership, but the people with the vision and leadership skills left the company a few years ago.

Cons

The company actively de-values employees. They had a project they called "Project Horizon" where they told all employees they needed to cut costs, so the company was going to have multiple layoffs over 3-5 years - but nobody was allowed to know when, where, or why - - just one day large swaths of people would be gone. That hung over everyone's heads - for years, and is indicative of how Cengage values employees - it doesn't. Everything is about trying to secure new funding and prepare for an IPO, so they stopped investing significantly in the products about 3 years ago and that's about when they stopped acting like they cared about employee wellness as well.
