Micromanagement prevails in Engineering - Software Engineering Blackbaud Employee Review

Pros

The mission of the company to serve non-profits makes it feel like you are doing something for the greater good. For the most part, people are nice and there are fun activities from time to time. Location at the Domain is convenient to major access roads and there are many options for grabbing lunch or drinks after work. PTO policy is good.

Cons

There has been a big shift in Engineering since the leadership changed near the end of 2013. More directors were brought in throughout 2014 and the micromanagement came on heavy. Command and control is the mode of operation. Engineers hours are watched and scrutinized rather than the outcome and value of what they are producing. The great vision of leadership is to make sure engineers time adds up to 90% of their available capacity. If you do that (and produce nothing of substance or value) you're ok. Don't expect promotions either. They have become stingier and stingier with those over the past year or so. Again, engineering leadership doesn't know how to motivate and retain engineers. It's no wonder the good ones are leaving. In general, compensation is much lower than other software companies in Austin.

Pros

Flexible remote work environment and good PTO

Cons

Extremely toxic sales culture here with boys club and clear favoritism. Sales director and VP are the reason for this as they are extremely unprofessional. Mass exodus is for a reason and unsure why HR is ignoring claims on sexism and favoritism with every female employee that seems to be leaving. No career growth or opportunities unless you are part of the boys club here as it is apparently and obvious. Ask the right questions before considering a job here. You are unable to be successful here with onboarding because of completely out of touch and delusional sales trainers. Seems like we are in a complete clown show here!
