Pros

For someone just starting out uncertified and 0 healthcare experience, the pay is pretty good, especially if you work weekends and night shift. There is opportunities for raises, very small raises, but they do offer raises if you are a golden employee who doesn’t call out ever. If you’re lucky enough to not get canceled on an extra shift, their overtime incentives are really good.

Cons

Management isn’t cooperative of schedule with school, children, etc. They offer PTO but my manager in particular denies it most of the time and then SHE goes on PTO literally at minimum once a month… Maybe it’s just my manager though. My old manager was not like this at all and understood that we had a life outside of work and cared for us, so I’m sure it just depends on the manager. Also, they find random reasons to put you in corrective action once they find out you’re searching for jobs elsewhere in the hospital or other Banner locations (again, maybe just my manager though). They don’t care about health, a coworker of mine had a stroke WHILE CLOCKED IN and they sent her to the ED, but expected her to be at work the next day. I got 2.5 occurrences because I fainted on my way to work and was sent to the ER and had to stay overnight in the hospital. The occurrences were for a late call off, and not coming in, and a note + discharge packet from the doctor who saw me at the hospital (and made mention that it was an issue with my HEART and referred me to a cardiologist, for which I now take heart medication for) did not matter to them as I should’ve just showed up after having a medical emergency on my way in. They also offer extra shifts with amazing incentives, but most of the time cancel you because they would rather be short staffed than actually follow through with giving those incentives. If I didn’t love my coworkers and my overall job taking care of patients, I would’ve left as soon as this new manager stepped in.

Pros

This review isn't about the pros of working for Banner Medical Group.

Cons

The last couple of years with BMG, many current and former leaders have encountered ongoing challenges related to the senior leadership team's (Ops Directors and above) behavior and accountability. Expectations and disciplinary actions are not applied consistently, and when disciplinary actions are applied, it is retaliatory for speaking up about these inconsistencies. This has created a culture of distrust and fear between the clinic leadership teams and Ops Directors/Senior Ops Directors. It also goes against Banner's "If you see something, say something" campaign. The HR team has also contributed to the growing fear and distrust by not following their own guidelines, and by the ERC's showing their bias against leaders through their tone of voice when talking with you, baseless accusations against leadership, and approving corrective actions that are vague and missing specific details of the incident that someone is being written up for. It also raises concerns amongst clinic leaders when multiple leaders bring forward the same concerns and issues about Ops Directors over a lengthy period of time and we're told, "we couldn't corroborate your concerns." And when multiple leaders provide ample evidence (Chronological Management Records, Teams chats, email chains, etc.) to disprove these false accusations and you're still placed into corrective action, the word corruption starts to become applicable.
