Pros
Amgen is a stable company with good benefits. It's products really do help people, and I can tell that the scientists I have worked are committed and really believe in what they are doing. The company expects their staff to work hard, and yet does understand the need for work / life balance.
Cons
Unfortunately, if you are in I.T., I would think twice before coming to Amgen. Outsourcing is the theme for 2008 - 2009. I.S. Infrastructure is underway now, and there will definitely be more to come. Speedy decisions are a think of the past -- too many layers of management with too few people to actually do the work.
