Pros

There used to be so many pros! Blueprint always had chaos at the top, but it also had an awesome culture, values that resonated, and best-in-class products to market and sell. That's all gone now so the best I can say is that there are many kind people still here.

Cons

Leadership has been a mess for years. The recent attempt to fix this by replacing certain executives is a clear failure to anyone paying attention. So now we all sit here knowing it's going to get so much worse. The company has abandoned the values that attracted many of us to BP in the first place. No more money for DEI or continuing education, no more commitment to honesty and transparency, executives who do not communicate or show up to meetings or review check ins, persistent refusals to clarify expectations. We went through layoffs recently. They were not done well. Sales are still dismal. All signs point to more layoffs coming. Half the company is talking about it, everyone is worried that the next round of layoffs will be even less thoughtful, and no execs are addressing any of it. Products haven't kept up with the market. We used to be best in class. We are not anymore. Our content lags far behind our competitors. No one will admit this so nothing gets fixed. Sexism is a regular thing. It will get worse now.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that recent changes have been difficult for many and recognize the concerns raised. When sales are down, difficult decisions on budgeting have to be made, and some program budgets have been temporarily put on pause. We did experience a 5% layoff in October 2023 and a 15% layoff in September 2024, and these decisions were not made lightly. With the support of our new executive team members in Marketing and Finance, we are focused on driving positive changes in our sales performance and continuing to improve communication and transparency across the company. We are committed to maintaining a strong culture and addressing concerns thoughtfully as we move forward.

Pros

I do have a challenging time thinking of pros. The company seemed very promising at first.

Cons

- CTO encourages burnout - PIP factory - Work/life balance is not considered - Zero compensation for hard-work

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your time at Blueprint. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience. We value constructive feedback and strive to create a supportive and professional work environment. The CTO "speech" referenced was intended to emphasize the importance of delivering on commitments and maintaining professionalism, rather than suggesting burnout is inevitable. We are committed to ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all employees. Tech compensation is reviewed periodically to ensure competitive market pricing, and all Software Engineer positions are above market pay. PIPs are not common at Blueprint; they are implemented when managers believe in the potential of the employee to improve and to provide more hands-on coaching. Like other companies, we have to make tough decisions and did experience a 5% layoff last year. This is not considered a strategy to overcome the challenges tech faces.

Identity crisis, not product-led

Pros

Like other ed-tech companies, there's a more rewarding connection to users - as learners - than other SaaS companies offer

Cons

Blueprint is having an identity crisis. A clear focus on what the core product value is has been diluted and lost with acquisitions - too many, too fast, and with poor integration strategy. There's no clearer signal that the company is not product-led than hiring, and then firing, a head of product before she even reaches a year. I'm not sure what kind of company the exec team wants to run - is it about live instruction, with top-quality tutors? Or a mediocre question bank competing against hundreds of better-funded MedEd companies with big-name SMEs and more robust platforms? By trying to do everything, we end up accomplishing very little. Two rounds of layoffs in a single year, with today's having deep cuts in engineering - entire teams vanished. How will we achieve our goals without the specific team members able to create what it is we try to sell?

While this year has included some difficult decisions, including layoffs, we are committed to aligning our resources and efforts around a clear product strategy, with continued investment in high-quality live instruction and the talented educators who make our services unique.
