Pros

1. Streamlined interview process: Out of all companies that I had interviewed for during my job search, BackboneAI provided the best experience, hands-down. Unlike other companies, I went through several rounds of meaningful interviews in less than two weeks with clear definitions of what steps were next and what I should expect. There was a clear level of respect for my time and effort as a candidate, and it was evident throughout each interview. 2. Inclusion and diversity: With mostly distributed/remote teams across Europe, Asia, and North/South America, Backbone has managed to find incredible leadership and talent throughout all teams. Backbone places an emphasis on acceptance and making employees feel comfortable & heard – regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, or nationality. For those looking to join a company that can focus on both work and important societal issues, Backbone is a fantastic choice. 3. Real technical problems to be solved and lots of room for ownership: Every startup claims that they give their employees ownership over their work and opportunities for growth, but few ever live up to it. Backbone is a clear exception to this – in interest of solving real-world technical problems with major impact, everybody has meaningful impact and responsibilities. The work can definitely be fast-paced and challenging, but adjacent team members and management are constantly on the lookout for making sure that the load is manageable and have an open channel of communication if you need assistance. In fact, they often "temperature check" and may suggest slowing down temporarily after a major sprint or taking on less-intensive tasks in order not to burn yourself out – I can safely say I haven't had this level of care anywhere else.

Cons

Backbone faces many of the same issues that other startups may experience due to limited time, resources, and shifts in focus on product. The work can definitely be challenging but Backbone has found a system (which it continues to revise) that allows for discussion/feedback on major decisions, as well as on an individual basis, in order to keep expectations and load reasonable.

Pros

1. The people -Extremely strong leadership team: years of experience building software, as well as product domain expertise. -Globally dispersed: we have teams across the US, Europe, and South America 2. The product -Addressing a need that applies to a MASSIVE market. There are thousands of companies that can use our capabilities. -We are working on and trying to solve extremely complex problems across very large data sets. -Strong product-market fit. It feels like we are working on something that works and has the potential to make it big one day. 3. The culture/values - Extremely supportive and transparent culture. We are always informed of significant company strategic decisions and have many forums to ask questions and understand all business areas. -Everyone at the company has an opportunity to make a big impact and wear many different hats. It feels like we are all essential contributors, and our daily efforts are respected. - The team goes above and beyond for their co-workers, even outside of their original job description. There is a strong mentality of radical responsibility, which has created a very supportive work culture.

Cons

-Typical startup growing pains: lots of work, not enough time, often not enough resources to do it. Often need to put in extra hours + extra effort, but that is all good if you are up for it!
