I have been working at BBC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The brand name looks great on your CV. The work is exciting. Depending on your manager you can get a decent work life balance. They won't make you work more than your hours.

    Cons

Very high pressure, the press hates you, the salaries are awful and there is no way to negotiate higher once you are in. Getting on to a staff contract can take up to 4 years, job security is terrible. High-paid middle managers are terrible. Production is being outsourced leaving the BBC a shell.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on internal campaigns, buzzwords and restructures that have very little impact on output and focus on treating your staff well and provide a structure for pay progression and higher salaries. You can't rely on the brand doing your recruiting forever - the brand is based on the staff being good, if you can't keep good staff the brand will fail.

I have been working at BBC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big enough to move around and even change career if necessary. There are plenty of opportunities to move within departments and outside. There are also relatively good pay and excellent childcare/pensions etc.

    Cons

It's such a big company, it's like an oil-tanker to turn- changes take time. Sometimes it sufers with "public-sector fatigue" in that people who aren't necessarily good at their jobs are stuck there for years.

    Advice to Management

I think management should be more dynamic and it sometimes feels in times of difficulty (eg. budget cuts), management jobs are sage and other jobs are at risk.
