JOB SUMMARY –
The Assistant Production Supervisor supports the effective operation of production activities by coordinating daily workflow, monitoring production performance, and ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and operational standards. This role assists in achieving production targets by communicating expectations, organizing shift activities, and supporting employees through coaching, guidance, and performance management. Working closely with the Production Supervisor, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance teams, the Assistant Production Supervisor helps maintain efficient process flow, resolves operational issues, and ensures compliance with ECL systems, policies, and procedures. The position plays a key role in maintaining a safe and productive work environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES –
- Support daily production activities to ensure quality standards, production schedules, and operational targets are achieved.
- Communicate production expectations, objectives, and priorities to employees at the beginning of each shift and throughout the workday as required.
- Organize workflow by assigning responsibilities to employees at the start of each shift and adjusting tasks as production needs change.
- Stage upcoming production jobs and ensure operators are prepared with required materials and information.
- Monitor production rates, shift performance, and progress, reporting updates to the Production Supervisor.
- Identify and address production bottlenecks to maintain efficient process flow.
- Ensure employees follow safety procedures, PPE requirements, quality control plans, and work instructions.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure safe operation of equipment and address maintenance needs.
- Collaborate with Production Management, Engineering, Quality, and Sales & Operations teams to resolve production challenges.
- Review and approve employee time and expense records and use production data to monitor efficiency and productivity.
- Audit order line completion in Epicor to ensure accurate production tracking.
- Support improvement of labour and material variances in collaboration with the Production Manager.
- Assist Quality and Engineering teams in troubleshooting technical issues on the production floor.
- Open and close company facilities as required for shift operations.
- Operate production equipment when necessary to support production demands.
- Attend daily production meetings and weekly supervisory meetings.
- Support employee development by coordinating cross-training and backup training opportunities.
- Conduct employee performance discussions and provide coaching to improve performance.
- Address employee concerns and escalate significant issues to the Production Supervisor or Production Manager when necessary.
- Observe employee behavior and performance and apply recognition or corrective action when appropriate.
- Review and approve vacation requests and employee absenteeism documentation.
- Conduct safety inspections, lead safety discussions, and promote a safe working environment.
- Respond to workplace injuries, oversee hazard reporting, and assist in accident investigations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES –
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production floor operations.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures, work instructions, and operational standards.
- Basic understanding of ERP systems such as Epicor and production reporting processes.
Skills:
- Leadership and supervisory skills to coordinate and manage a production shift of approximately 15–25 employees.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address operational issues.
- Effective communication skills to provide clear direction and maintain team alignment.
- Organizational and time management skills to manage workflow, schedules, and production priorities.
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE –
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience coordinating production activities and managing employee performance considered an asset.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing tools preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing systems, ERP platforms, or production reporting tools considered an asset.
- Valid G driver’s license required.
WORKING CONDITIONS –
- Primarily production-floor based role supporting daily manufacturing operations.
- Standing: approximately 70–80% of the workday supervising production activities and supporting employees on the shop floor.
- Walking: approximately 10–20% of the workday moving between workstations, departments, and production areas.
- Sitting: approximately 5–10% of the workday completing administrative duties, reporting, and system updates.
- Work environment may include exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures including hot or humid conditions.
- Mandatory use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety eyewear, hearing protection, and other equipment as required.
- Occasional lifting of materials or components, generally up to 50 lbs.
- Role requires the ability to stand for extended periods during a full production shift.
- Respirator use may be required depending on operational tasks or production processes.
Schedule: Permanent Day Shift or Permanent Night Shift (No Rotation)
This role follows a fixed continental schedule with no rotation between days and nights. Associates work a repeating two-week schedule:
- Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday
