      Strategy and Insights Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at eBay (London, England) in Dec 2024

      Interview

The interview process at eBay was longer than I expected, spanning 4-5 rounds. While there were some positive aspects, such as the recruiter's communication, there were also areas that could be improved, particularly regarding role alignment and transparency about job requirements. Interview Process: HR Round: The first round was with HR and was fairly generic, focusing on my background and interest in the role. Hiring Manager Round: The second round was with the hiring manager and was behavioral and competency-based. Technical Round: The third round assessed my data analytics skills, which was relevant and expected. Onsite Interview: The fourth round was an onsite interview, which was more in-depth. Additional Hiring Manager Round: Surprisingly, there was a fifth round with a different hiring manager, which felt redundant and confusing. Positives: The recruiter was very nice, understanding, and kept me informed with timely updates throughout the process. The technical interview was well-structured and aligned with the skills required for the role. Negatives: The hiring manager changed midway through the process, which was unexpected and a bit disorienting. The role I interviewed for was completely different from the one I initially applied for. This lack of clarity was frustrating, especially after investing time in multiple rounds. I was ultimately rejected because the other candidate had e-commerce experience. While I understand that companies have preferences, I believe such a critical requirement should have been communicated upfront, especially given the lengthy interview process. Suggestions for Improvement: Role Clarity: Ensure candidates are interviewed for the exact role they applied for, or at least communicate any changes clearly and early in the process. Transparency: If specific experience (e.g., e-commerce) is a strong preference or requirement, it should be mentioned in the job description or at the beginning of the interview process. Streamline Process: Consider reducing the number of rounds or providing a clearer timeline to avoid candidate fatigue. Final Thoughts: While I appreciated the professionalism of the recruiter and some aspects of the interview process, the lack of role alignment and transparency about requirements left a negative impression. I hope eBay can improve these areas to create a better experience for future candidates.
