I applied for a project manager role recently, and to my delight was contacted the following day to arrange a screener with a recruiter. We scheduled a time, and I prepared for the interview. First, the recruiter was 10 minutes late calling me. That is forgivable. I understand schedules are tight these days. The disarming part to me was when I was about 10 minutes into detailing my experience, she abruptly interrupts me and says “stop right there”, and then proceeded to ask me if I had very specific qualifications with marketing programs that were not listed as needed qualifications for the job. After I said no, I was told “we’re done here” and basically hung up on. While I understand there’s needed experience I did not have (I wouldn’t have applied for the job had I known), it’s interesting to me that a company that is currently going from 1700 to 5000 employees, would at least have the courtesy to finish a scheduled interview and see if perhaps I would be a fit somewhere else. I have over 20 years of work experience and skilled in many valuable areas (project management, analytics, resource management, etc). It was a real turn off for me and I’m not sure I’ll continue to seek employment here.
