      Payroll Specialist Interview

      Nov 5, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Richmond Hill, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Venterra Realty (Richmond Hill, ON) in Nov 2018

      Interview

An agency contacted me regarding the position that they were working with Venterra, I didn’t know until 1 week before the actual interview with the Employee Experience Coordinator. First, I did an interview through the phone with the agency recruiter, and after we did a Skype interview, basically going over my experiences and what I was looking for, the recruiter was very polite and professional. After that, she shared my profile with Venterra and they were interested in meeting me. The interview day has come, they gave me a general/logic test with 40 questions to be completed in 15 minutes, the Employee Experience Coordinator said that there wasn’t a right or wrong answer. By the time the clock stopped, I didn’t get a chance to finish the last 5 questions, I advised her and she said, I’ll give you a couple of seconds to pick random options by guessing, which I did. The interview continued by she asking about my childhood, high school, university and personal experiences, nothing related to the position or my expertise to show that I’m capable of doing the job. She briefly talked about the company and gave me a chance to ask questions, which I did and I didn’t get a concise answer in one of them. After I left, I contact the agency recruiter to share my thoughts and after a couple of hours I’ve got an email from her saying that they’ve decided to move forward with other candidates because I didn’t complete the test (left 8 question without response) and she had some concerns about my adaptability to change in their fast-changing environment. This was the most ungrounded and liar feedback ever. Too bad for a company that has great values, which in my experience seemed to be only on paper.

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review and for your time and efforts in moving through our process! We are sorry to hear you had such a negative experience. My hope is to address some of your concerns here, but would also encourage you to reach out to careers.ca@venterraliving.com to discuss in more detail as we want to be able to really narrow down what may have led up to your specific negative experiences and provide further clarity. The more details you're able to provide, the more prepared we'll be to prevent a recurrence for a future candidate. Our goal is to ensure a positive experience for our residents, employees, and candidates. Our first interview is focused on finding people who are the right fit for the company culture as well as for any team they might be joining. Our assessment and unique interview questions are both intended to help us get to know candidates better. As important as it is for us to understand skills and expertise, as you mentioned, we're interested in retaining employees for the long term, so we believe it's equally important to have an understanding of what really makes our candidates tick. We feel these are both valuable tools in achieving this goal. Thank you again for your feedback. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
