      Financial Analyst Interview

      Mar 8, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Vanguard in Feb 2017

      Interview

Prior to me scheduling my office visit the recruiter sent a series of questions that I had to answer: See below. General: Why are you looking? Why are you interested in Vanguard? Do you have any relatives that work at Vanguard? Have you interviewed at Vanguard before? Do you have other opportunities in play, if so at what stage in the process? Technical Questions: Can you explain the difference between a fixed and a variable cost and provide an example of each from your current role? Can you explain the difference between marginal profitability and total profitability? Are you familiar with NPV (Net Present Value) and how have you applied it to your current or previous role. Cost Benefit Related: Explain the most complex CBA that you have completed in the last 12 months? Explain the key costs and benefits. A business leader approaches you are seeking guidance on a technology project he would like to explore that could greatly increase the efficiency of his operations group. How would you approach this situation? After I submitted my response to the above questions, I was contacted by the internal recruiter to set up an in-person interview. The in person consist of 4 interviews: 1) interview with the hiring manager 2) Technical assessment conducted by a current financial analyst 3) Panel interview with 3 Directors focused on my fit for the organization and 4) informal discussion with current Analyst The interview questions were qualitative focused on negotiating and prioritizing time effectively, applying business knowledge to and financial analysis to decision making, managing ambiguity, servicing clients. The excel test has 5 parts, and very few have completed all 5, ask the interview which one he wants you to focus on.

      Malvern, PA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Vanguard (Malvern, PA) in Jul 2017

      Interview

First there was a phone screen with someone from HR and then if HR liked you from the phone screen you were told that someone else would email you with an interview day and schedule. Interview day is a 4 hours long with 2 interviews with managers and directors, an assessment, and lunch/coffee with a current analyst. Very straightforward but the some of the questions are meant to trick on purpose. you need to be on your game the entire time, don't let your guard down on bit. the managers and directors notice everything. felt like they want a certain person and not really open to diverse backgrounds. that is what I gathered since the two current analyst had a similar background to me. I want diverse backgrounds not the same.
