      Tutor Interview

      Jul 5, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Angelo, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid (San Angelo, TX) in Mar 2017

      Interview

First, I interviewed with an employee in China. She gave me feedback on my lesson, both positive and items to tweak. Then, she explained how much I would be paid and some more important details. I had another interview with an experienced VIPKID tutor in which I had about an hour to showcase two lessons. When I got online an hour before to practice, all was working well. The time of the interview came and no one showed up. I waited for about five minutes and decided to refresh my session. She WAS there. By the time we got everything going, it was 20 minutes into my hour. I was flustered and couldn't figure out what to leave out of the sample lessons. She, too, gave me both positive feedback and things to work on. Then, I received an email the next day stating that I was not what they were looking for. Wow... 31 years in education successfully teaching ESL students and bam! Just like that. I replied to the email explaining what had happened with the second session, but they have never replied. That was four months ago. I realize that some people have had a wonderful experience with this company, but this initial process left a horrible taste in my mouth.

We are humbled to count with greatly experienced applicants like you. As the online education industry continues evolving, skills honed in offline classrooms may not translate well to online environments. Our recruitment process is aimed at empowering our applicants with guidelines to operate online. However, we know it has room for improvement and we’re currently implementing new guidelines.
