      Flight Attendant Interview (Newark) Interview

      Jun 17, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Newark, NJ
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at United Airlines (Newark, NJ) in Jun 2015

      Interview

I applied to United Airlines online on 05/29/2015. On 6/1/2015 I was invited to compete the HireVue video interview. I completed the video interview on 06/2/2015. I was given 6 questions and had to record my answers. I was dressed professionally for the video recording. The questions were a series for behavioral questions. For example Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult customer. What would you co-workers say about you? etc. You are provided with a practice options PLEASE USE IT!! you will be more prepared to record the answers if you practice. You are ONLY allowed to re-record when you are in the practice session NOT in the real session. On 06/07/2015 I was invited to attend a group session which includes a one on one and two on one interview. I called the number provided in the email to schedule my interview. I live close to NJ so I drove down early the morning of my interview. My interview was on 06/15/2015 at 9am. I arrived at the Newark Airport and parked in the economy parking lot. Its only $18 for the day. There is also a free shuttle from the paring lot to the terminal and back. The parking lot is about 5-6 mins drive away from the terminal. You can park across from the terminal but you will have to pay $33 for the day. I like to save money :-). I proceed to get my pass to enter the gate area, you have to go through security like all of the travelers so make sure you have enough time to do all of this and make it to the gate before 9am. They are very punctual so if you are 5 minutes late you will be left behind. It was pretty easy to spot the other interviewees all huddled in one corner. I joined them and introduced myself. A little small talk but everyone seemed nervous. We were escorted into the secured area and to the United Training Center. You are seated in a room with all of the other interviewees. The recruiters come into the room and introduce themselves. They will provided so background information on the position and United. There will be a short question and answer portion and then the one on one interviews will begin. They will come into the room and call you one by one and take you into a bigger room filled with cubicles. (YOU WILL BE IN THE SAME ROOM AS OTHER INTERVIEWEES SO STAY FOCUSED AND IGNORE THE OTHER INDIVIDUALS). The first thing you will be asked to do is read a short announcement the way a flight attendant would. It's regarding immigration forms being issued before landing. The interviewer will ask you question similar to the video interview. You will also role play, I will post the scenario below in the interview questions box. I will post the questions I remember down below in the question section also. If they want to potentially extend a training invite immediately they will ask you to stay for another interview. At the end of my interview there were 6 of us. They then called us one by one to do a two on one interview. This second interview will be more personal. I was asked...why United over all of the other airlines? If I could comply with the tattoo policy? If I knew exactly what being a flight attendant entails? etc. More personal questions. You can ask questions in both interviews to gain further understanding. They two senior recruiters said they would step out and discuss a few things and be right back. About 2 minutes later they returned and offered me an invitation for training. I will being training next month. Be yourself, be honest, make sure your answers are complete (situation, your actions and the out come of the situation). I hope this helps to ease the nerves. You will do well! P.S 5 of the remaining 6 were offered an invite to training. It is possible that more people were invited but since I was one of the last few people to interview I may not seen other selected candidates. Also just because you were not selected on the spot does not mean they will not review your application information and select you after the interview. Do not give up until you get a definite yes or no!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why Do you want to be a flight attendant? Tell me about a time you had to assist a difficult customer? Tell me about a time you had a conflict with your co-worker? Tell me about a time you made a decision at work that you wished you had handled differently and how would you have changed it? Tell me about a time you had fun at work? What is a difficult situation you think a flight attendant would have to deal with? We role played: I was the lead flight attendant and the other flight attendants did not want to serve with me. How would I handle it?
