      Project Manager Interview

      Mar 19, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I interviewed at Ulta Beauty (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

Was a pretty long process but overall people were nice. I think they could have been a little more transparent when they said online it was remote, but they would want you to drive to the plant once a week in the interview.

      Project Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bolingbrook, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Ulta Beauty (Bolingbrook, IL) in May 2015

      Interview

Process consisted of a phone screen with a recruiter and a face to face interview with the hiring manager and of their several colleagues; 30 minute sessions with each person lasting a total of about 3 ½ hours. Started out by being contacted by a former colleague who worked there telling me what a great fit I would be and asking if they could pass my resume to their recruiter. The recruiter, whom I had spoken to multiple times before about other roles for which I interviewed, reached out to me within 24 hours and very excitedly told me they wanted to get the ball rolling because they wanted to hire someone quickly. After 3 months of back and forth emails telling me “We haven’t forgotten about you; things are just busy here” I received an email from the hiring manager asking me to go to Florida to meet with him at a conference. I informed him that I was not attending the conference but would be happy to meet with him at their home office and received no response. After another 2 months and many more back and forth emails with the recruiter I said that I was no longer interested as it seemed that they were just playing games. They very quickly asked to set up an interview as soon as possible. I reluctantly agreed and after being given the itinerary for who I would be meeting with I informed the recruiter that I have already interviewed with almost all of them (including the hiring manager) multiple times for other roles. I told them that I didn’t want to waste my time talking to all of them again; if they didn’t know me well enough to make a decision at this point then another 30 minutes with each of them wasn’t going to make a difference. I was informed that I was the only candidate that they had for this role and I was assured that the recruiter had expressed the same concern to the hiring manager. I was told that the hiring manager had every intention of making me an offer as they had no other candidates and had interviewed me before. So after 5 months of being strung along I agreed to attend the interview which was very casual and seemed like a formality. I fully expected to walk out with an offer in hand but didn’t. Less than a week later the recruiter called me to say that they were not making me an offer. I was told that an internal employee found out that an external candidate was interviewed and was unhappy that they were not considered for the position. This person threatened to quit if they didn’t get the job so they offered the job to them instead. The recruiter apologized excessively and told me that this was done without their knowledge. I guess I should have known better after being strung along for so long, but nonetheless I asked that they no longer contact me about future opportunities. The recruiter was a little surprised that I said that but told me that they understood why I felt that way. Quite simply a terrible company that treats their candidates like dirt.

      Interview

Everyone was very warm and friendly. They all seemed dedicated to their jobs and continuous improvement. Interview was approximately 4 hours - with several people who would be affected by the position. Even though it was great to get to meet the people I would be working with, I do wonder if it would be better to not interview with quite so many people. It was a bit of a marathon.
