The 2nd day after posting my resume on Career Builder, I was approached by the internal recruiter saying that they really liked my background and would like me to come in for an interview. But, first I was asked to complete a personality assessment, a retail sales test and a writing test demonstrating my ability to write the "Uline" way. All information was provided back to this potentail employer before the first round of interviews. When I showed up, I was asked to take 2 different math assessments and then about 25 minutes later my first interview commenced. I met with the recruiting supervisor who very nice and went about the interview in a professional and well-trained manner. I was told that the president of company was looking for the position I was interviewing for to be a senior position with responsibility for a large portion of product line. I was then told that the person I would be reporting to had a differing opinion of what the job should be...She seemed to like me and left me in the waiting area to find others to talk with - no one was available. I sent a follow-up thank you the next day and heard nothing for 2 weeks. I then called the same recruiting supervisor and she responded in an email that they want to bring me back in. When returning for round 2, I was asked to take another assessment that I believe was on merchandising and then met with the son of the owner who would be my boss if I was hired on, then met with 2 senior product managers and had detailed discussions about my background and accomplishments, and then had a pannel interview with the head of HR and a VP of customer service. More thank you notes were sent out and I was called back in a week later for round 3. This time with 2 more senior product managers. I have to say that all interviews well very professional and fostered very good 2-way communication. More thank you notes...and then nothing for over 1 week. I called the recruiting supervisor who I originally met with and then received a voicemail back saying that the decision maker was traveling and they were talking with 1 more candidate. Another week went by and I was sent a 2 sentance email saying that they had selected someone else who is a "better fit". I did place a call and sent another email to get more specific information that went unanswered. VERY diasppointing for all that effort and time, only to be sent a lousy and undescriptive "form letter".
I have since heard from others that Uline is notorious for talking with many candidates that they never hire. AND 6 weeks later, they are still advertising for the same position of "Merchant Director". To sum things up, they wasted my time. Even though I am still in the job hunt, I am happy to have not recieved and accepted an offer to work at Uline.
