      Senior Product Manager Interview

      May 31, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Tripadvisor in Apr 2018

      Interview

Screening call by the the recruiter (usual behavioral questions) and then was setup an interview call with the hiring manager. Interview with the hiring manager was usual, started with behavioral questions, then couple of questions about what metrics I use in my current position and finally an analytical question - again it was about breaking down their metrics.

      Question 1

What metrics would you use to determine whether a Tripadvisor feature is working as designed?

I applied online. I interviewed at Tripadvisor (Oxford, England) in Feb 2018

      Interview

Up until the onsite interview, everything went well with timely responses and feedback. I was asked to prepare a presentation and spent four hours onsite for a series of interviews with the team. Everyone was friendly and found the process to be enjoyable. At the end of the last onsite interview, I was told I was the last candidate they were seeing and that I would receive feedback early in the following week. It has now been almost five weeks and I have received no communications whatsoever, except for a response to an email to say there was no update when I enquired about feedback two weeks after the interview. That the team favours other candidates, I can live with. There is plenty of great talent out there and I may not have demonstrated the skills that the team was looking for during the interview. What I cannot accept, however, is being asked to spend time to prepare a presentation and spend four hours for onsite interviews, for which I have taken a day off work, and have absolutely no feedback in return whatsoever. I find that to be unprofessional and shows a basic lack of respect for people's time and efforts. I find it especially ironic after being extolled about 'speed wins' as a company value. I

I’m glad to hear that your experience with us both before and during the interview process was an enjoyable one. We strive to provide a great candidate experience that allows prospective employees to learn about us while we evaluate them. I am certainly disappointed that post interview your experience was not as positive. Circumstances do change throughout the hiring process that can cause delays or a shift in direction but that is no excuse for the lack of communication you have experienced. I encourage you to reach out to me directly so I can personally provide you the feedback you deserve and determine the root cause of this issue so future candidates do not have a similar experience. - Carolyn

      Senior Product Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Needham, MA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Tripadvisor (Needham, MA)

      Interview

interview is not reflective of the job, The recruiter was hell bent on if I went to a business school or not, it didnt matter to her that I had 7 years of experience in product management. Read some of product manager reviews, the honest ones will say that how they are doing such mediocre work and are more of project managers instead. Its surprising to see how many harvard, MIT grads are working in this company. We have an overabundance of below average ivy league students who are settling for ~ 100k salaries and this gives companies like trip advisor to blindly increase their requirements for meagre work they expect their PMs to do. I asked the recruiter to not contact me again.
