      Pros

Very supportive leadership team who has done a great job navigating the pandemic and the hit on travel. I think we are coming out stronger from the pandemic as a result of their decisions. An emphasis on mental health wellbeing and work/life balance (flex time, wfh flexibility, etc.)

      Cons

A few failed 'big bets' recently have been a bit demoralizing, although the new CEO seems promising to get us on the path to growth.

        Pros

Despite what some employees seem to think, I think Tripadvisor does an amazing job taking care of their people. From competitive compensation, to work flexibility, to acknowledge and working on issues like Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, to the charitable work that the company does through the TripAdvisor Foundation... You can tell that they are going above and beyond to take care of their people. Some employees seem to want every aspect of their lives to be conveniently arranged by their employer (feed me gourmet meals every day, pay for the chair I sit in at home, etc.) But if you're satisfied with amazing comp and a standard benefits package, as well as generous maternity and paternity plans you will be more than happy.

        Cons

I wish the leadership team as well as individual department heads were... Well... More inspiring and charismatic. Sometimes I feel like they are robots reading off a script when talking to us, whether in town halls or smaller meetings. I also wish they would promote more from within, especially for higher level positions, and then provide their people with coaching to get them up to par. Instead, many departments keep hiring MBAs from outside.

                  Pros

TripAdvisor has great profit sharing, great compensations in respect to the Ottawa market, and cool benefits like catered lunches and reembursal programs for transit. The office environment is medium sized, about 30 engineers and sports an open format, so you really get to know everyone. People are friendly and willing to help and generally, there isn't much people stepping on top of others, at least in engineering.

                  Cons

High expectations, sometimes stressful because release is weekly. Since this office is a virtual office, communicating with HQ and always being in the loop is a challenge. Things move very quickly at TripAdvisor.

Thanks for your review. I appreciate that you touched on many of the things that make TripAdvisor a great place to work- unique benefits, an open office environment, and friendly and helpful coworkers. I agree that we set high expectations for our teams and stick to our “speed wins” philosophy. Both have contributed greatly to our success over the years. Working across multiple locations and time zones presents communication challenges to any organization and we are no different. Although we’ve made strides in this area, there’s room for improvement and we’re always open to suggestions. Thanks again for your feedback and continued dedication to TripAdvisor. - Nick Shanny, SVP Engineering & Operations

                    Pros

I joined TripAdvisor about 5 years ago and for the most part it has been a great experience. The company has great core values and there's room to move and grow. They are a global company and if you don't live in city with a TripAdvisor office working remote isn't a problem.

                    Cons

The company has gone through some massive organizational changes over the past year. The company is focused more than ever on being profitable. As a result a lot of its focus on the employees has gone sideways.

                      Pros

Smart coworkers; strong positive culture; high compensation; rev-share and bonuses are top tier; lots and lots of perks and benefits.

                      Cons

There is a lot of effort expected (that you are very well compensated for); while above-and-beyond isn't required, certainly you'll get the most out of TripAdvisor if you're able to step up the commitment (and again, you'll be rewarded for it).

                        Cons

Harsh technical interviews, not in line with daily tasks & environment. Salary is good, but not great given the expected skill level & throughput

When someone says “We are eager to fill this position, we have no timeline but it should not drag out,” what are the chances I’m selected? This was at the third round interview, last Tue (5d ago) when I was told I should hear from HR next. The job was posted 30+ days ago. I applied for it on 10/22 and the interview process started 11/6 with an HR screening phone call.

Workday interview tips needed. The role I am applying to is a site reliability engineer role. I am not sure what to expect. Of course it’s a technical role so I do expect those questions. I am wondering if they go extra hard and how many rounds? I read somewhere that they do 5 rounds. Either way any tips are@welcome.
