      Product Advisor (Sales) Interview

      Mar 17, 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Calgary, AB
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Toyota North America (Calgary, AB) in Feb 2016

      Interview

I was emailed to set up an interview date and time. showed up and checked in with the receptionist who told me that my interviewer was at lunch and running behind so I would be doing the computer testing first. The receptionist presumed that the interviewer had contacted me and was shocked when I informed her that he had not. She led me to a computer and got me started on the testing, then informed me that she was leaving or her lunch. After I finished 45mins of testing (math and English proficiency, personality, and situational questions), I check in with the new receptionist to see if I could have my interview now, I was then informed that I wasn't doing the interview that week and I was free to go (I double checked too). Half an hour after I left I received an email from the interviewer apologizing for his miscommunication with the receptionist and for being out at lunch late (since the interview was supposed to take place before the testing-to see if it's even necessary). We rescheduled ANOTHER interview date for the following week. When I arrived for the new interview date, the interviewer was "held up with a client" for over half an hour PAST our meeting time. When I finally did meet with him, he only commented on the fact that my personality test showed that I was more intervened than extroverted and as such would not make a good sales person (even though I had over five years of sales experience and had just graduated with a degree). He had many unprofessional comments (such as "I bet you didn't even know there was a second floor"-when there was a large staircase in the tiny show room, making it apparent that there was another floor. As well as, "I assume you can find your own way out?"-I could seriously see the front door and my car from his office...). The meeting only lasted about 10 mins and no reference was made to my resume or previous work experience other than to ask me if I had experience in sales and with target goals. Considering it was an interview based on sales I was expecting to be asked what I knew about Toyota or their cars (which I do know a lot about, considering I purchased a Subaru-which is owned by the same parent company as toyota, fujifilm). Knowledge about the actual product or cars in general was never mentioned. It was just all around unprofessional and I have no doubt that I was not seriously considered for the position (though he said that he would try to find me a desk job in the company since I'm "capable of sending emails" but I did not hear back from him by the end of the week as I had been told that I would be. After he missed our first interview time I felt like he wanted to not meet with me at all in order to not have to own up to him own mistakes.
