Sales, Marketing, and Service MT Program Interview

      Apr 14, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Torrance, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Toyota North America (Torrance, CA) in Mar 2012

      Interview

I first met with Toyota at a college career fair, I talked to them there and I received a 30 minute interview based on an initial resume check for the next day. At the interview, it was very behavioral based, tell me about a time, what is your biggest accomplishment, etc. I heard back two weeks later and I was invited to Toyota's HQ in Torrance, CA. The flight and hotel were paid by Toyota. First day of interviews we sat in on a panel discussion and Q/A, then the program was explained more in-depth. Then we broke out in 3 groups of 18 and we all had 2 15 minute interviews. The first one was one to one, basically trying to see what kind of person you are and would you be a good fit with the company. Second was two to one and it was basically the same thing. After we were all done with interviews we were transported back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Although the dinner is informal and relaxed, IT IS STILL AN INTERVIEW, so act accordingly. After the dinner they informed us that they would make calls within an hour to let us know which of us would be receiving a second interview and which ones would not. I received a second interview and it was the next day. It was a 45 minute interview with 3 interviewers. This interview was hard, they probe your answers and it's best to use STAR format for this one. Each interviewer was very hard to read. They asked me why I was interested in Toyota and the field. Be very honest with them, I remember they asked me if I drove a Toyota and I just said no. They are looking at things like that. Three days after the interview I received a phone call that I was moved to the final round which was a ride-along with a DM in a Toyota region closest to your home location. My ride-along exposed me to the job on a different level because I was able to see first-hand what I would be doing on a daily basis. It is pretty much consulting dealerships on what products are being sold and sales numbers compared to other dealerships in the region and nationwide. I received a call about two weeks after my ride-along to inform me that I got the job. Piece of advice, be enthusiastic and be honest. These were two things that I stuck by and it paid off. Toyota seems to be a cool company and I can't wait until the summer to start.
