      Sales Development Representative (SDR) Interview

      Apr 28, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Suzy in Apr 2021

      Interview

I was first contacted by their talent acquisition personnel to schedule an introductory interview. Although this individual was 20-25 minutes late and we only spoke for 5 minutes, I appreciated it as we made sure money could work and I that understand what I was interviewing for. Pretty painless. I was then asked to create a couple ‘mock emails’. In short, Suzy provided prompts for two individuals at two different organizations and asked me to write a mock email to each person. Could have been on purpose I suppose, but both individuals were no longer with their respective organizations. So, I did what any good SDR would do and found individuals who were indeed at those organizations and wrote my mock emails to them. I’ll mention again below, but these emails were never discussed. Then came my video interview with the hiring manager – although the hiring manager turned off their video feed at the beginning. The entire interview felt combative and I felt disqualified from the very beginning. I was never asked about how I handle rejection (which every SDR does). I wasn’t really asked about my process or how I engage the prospects. I wasn’t asked anything about Suzy to prove I did my research (which every SDR needs to do). Almost no questions about my daily work as a SDR… for a SDR role. The entire conversation centered around metrics for the most part - even though what I'm selling now is a bit apples-to-oranges for what Suzy does. She also never brought up the mock emails I wrote, and I seriously wonder if she even read them… All in all, it was not a good experience. I think I was very qualified for the position but there was more of a focus on statistics so she could make an apples-to-oranges comparison, rather than focus on my abilities and skills. They want to hire a robot, not a person. This is a great opportunity/company for someone looking for a stepping stone.

Thanks for the really thoughtful feedback. While we do strive for great experiences, it seems you didn’t have a great experience with us. We are always open to feedback to help us get better, so if you’re open to it, please email me at anthonyo@suzy.com. If not, I will share this with the recruiting team and hiring manager to avoid this type of experience in the future. While Suzy didn’t work out, you can also connect with me via LinkedIn and I’m happy to extend my networks to you for your job search. Thanks again. - Anthony Onesto Chief People Officer
