I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Success Academy Charter Schools (New York, NY) in Apr 2019
Interview
Applied and got a phone screening the next day. They'd accepted my phone screening a day after so I could move onto the interview. It was very clear they were desperate to fill up positions with anyone who was even remotely competent.
Before the interview, they sent me some links, such as a video on how the school operates in order to better prepare me for my potential future job. Video itself was unsettling. I've worked with children before and there was no joy in these elementary schooler's eyes. They each had the quiet and rigid feeling that emotionally abused children often get with unnecessarily overly strict guardians that yell at you for every little thing (and from how the other reviews are on Glassdoor, this probably isn't too far off). They were all conditioned to act like a well-oiled machine, without a real purpose except as instructed by the professor. I remind you: These looked like very young children.
I feel as though I'm very bad at elaborating on this, but for someone who's been conditioned their entire life to recognize signs of child abuse, dissociation in children, etc: This video freaked me the hell out. Not in the sense that it was very obvious, but it was the sort of creeping fear where you recognize that this sort of situation is one that people overlook because they don't think about it too hard, or they don't know the subtle signs.
Video scared me enough to not apply. I took a vow that I would never be the monster that haunts my children's nightmares as a mentor figure. Those kids aren't going to grow up being able to learn and grow and become competent adults.
A lot about willingness to discipline, how you grew up, adaptability, etc. Also stuff on what my educational experience was like (strict or not strict)? Also mock roleplay about disciplining a kid

I received a random message on LinkedIn from a recruiter. We had a call where they went over interview prep and scheduled the meeting. They asked pretty standard questions. Teaching experience, why teaching and why this specific academy, a time where you dealt with a difficult situation or person, how do you take constructive criticism then a simulated situation where they give you a scenario about ‘difficult’ parents and kids.

The interview is done very quickly, and the questions are to the point. The interviewee should try to answer in a short, precise manner. Confidence is essential for the interview.
