Initial phone screen interview, then in person interview, you will go through several rounds of interviews meeting different staff members, especially when several positions are opened. On the second round of in person interviews I was asked if I had children, to be considered for a school position, which I think it is extremely disrespectful and of course illegal. I never heard from her, I’m sure because I didn’t deny having children. I was called into the next round of interview for a different role, the interview went well with several questions and asked to give examples of your work experiences. I was invited back to a final round of interview, again, different role (apparently there were several Executive Assistant positions open), this time I was interviewed by 2 staff members, they both stepped out after the interview, I knew at this point I didn’t get any of the positions. They came back in and said they’d be in touch. 3 days later I got the call from HR that they received a lot of positive feedback, however, I was not chosen for any of the roles.
However, having children has never been a challenge or enabled me from performing professionally or kept me from being in an office and going above and beyond my position. I take pride in my work and I have never experienced this. I will take not getting any of the positions there as a blessing. My longevity, my background and experience can be appreciated elsewhere. As a school, I am sure children learn and excel above the average children in public schools, however, their corporate office has extreme high turnover and based on the past reviews I have read, its not the best place to work at. Word of advice, do your research, NYC has more than great companies with awesome culture, staff and management.
