I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Spotify (New York, NY) in Dec 2016
Interview
Brought in to NYC office and immediately realized that I was the oldest person in the room by ~5 years. Everyone else in 20's and 30's. Employees were stretched out over couches and generally hanging out in very millennial fashion. The hiring manager went through the motions of asking me the prepared questions about the role, but I knew it didn't matter how well I answered because I was simply not going to fit in age-wise. 8 hours later, received a simple 1 line email telling me that I wasn't being considered for the position. Don't even bother applying to Spotify if you're over the age of 38 or so.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Spotify (New York, NY) in Apr 2017
Interview
I've worked in the tech industry for 10 years at companies including Twitter and Uber. This was the single worst recruiting experience I've ever had. I was initially contacted by a talent "researcher" in Stockholm, who was a nice guy and quickly said he thought I was too senior for any of the roles there. He referred me to a Talent Manager in New York. Over the course of several months, this person proceeded to schedule and cancel me for multiple phone screens across different departments. Each time, he would schedule me for something irrelevant to my background (I'm consumer side, but because I had "video" experience" he booked me for a video ads role??) and I would point out that it didn't seem to make as much sense as other open roles. At one point he suggested that I was too junior for a Creator experience role, even though I've literally lead product teams building artist tools at my last three startups. The whole experience was so off-putting and unprofessional that I ultimately withdrew from the process before I even started it.
I applied online. I interviewed at Spotify in Nov 2016
Interview
I applied online, was contacted a week later and had a phone interview with a recruiter. Spend 45 minutes talking about previous work experience and background but received no actual skill-assement questions. The call ended abruptly when I was asked about salary expectation which was conform market. Despite being a perfect match for the role, no interview with the hiring-manger.
I've since accepted an offer and position at Google for a similar position.
