Let me preface this by saying I was approached by SmartBear at the end of 2018, but after reading some comments on here, I had declined to come in for an interview at that time. I wish I stuck to my gut, and not wasted my time with this company. I applied for this role after reconsidering the company (spoiler: they had notes stating I declined earlier), and was followed up by a recruiter, who was great. That led to a phone call with a Director, which was short and straightforward, and he wanted me to come in to meet. I met with 7 individuals separately over 4 hours (3 managers, 3 directors, 1 VP) which was excessive especially considering the salary range, which is definitely under market for the industry, but I digress. Straightforward questions about my experience, challenges faced, etc etc. One director completely dismissed me the second he sat down. I should have walked out, but having been 3.5 hours in at that point, I powered through. A short while later, I was left a voicemail and email by this same director stating they would be extending an offer pending references. After providing said references, I was followed up by him who said they would be going with another candidate. My experience up to receiving that email was less than stellar, and I was already on the fence about SmartBear, so no real loss in my book. However, my main reference followed up with me stating the same director was "surprised I provided her as a reference when he asked for her, and thought I was BS'ing about why I left the company" He also said he had many other candidates in play during this ref check, which was not relevant to her whatsoever. She said he came off hostile, and felt like she was being interrogated. Another reference said the same thing about him, so it was not an isolated incident. Complete lack of respect for me or references, and extremely unprofessional. The reviews on here are absolutely true. For the most part, the managers and the VP are extremely nice people, and it was a pleasure meeting them. The reason they have you meet everyone is to see where you fit in on the teams, but it should be done in a group setting to save time for all, especially as things kept shifting around throughout the process.
